Jennifer Trouton and Eamon O'Kane at The Braid

Work by Jennifer Trouton and Eamon O'Kane were to be seen in the latest show Exploring Spaces at the Braid Mid-Antrim Museum, a group exhibition examining place and space in its broadest sense from the macro to the micro, the global to the local, where both perceived and imagined spaces were investigated. On from March 22nd - May 31st 2014.

Interlace Exhibition at the National Craft Gallery

Interlace focused on contemporary interpretations of lace. The concept of the show developed by the National Craft Gallery was to explore how traditional material culture creates a resonant source for contemporary practice. Three dynamic Golden Fleece artists were represented in this exhibition, which ran from 28th March - 7th May 2014. Gemma Tipton wrote a very good preview of the show for the Fashion section of the Irish Times, you can see it here.

Raven Caroline Schofield’s black lace ravens reflect the concept that lace is about myth and memory. They link the long-ago makers and their untold stories of Famine survival with a present where living memory has slid into history

Claire Kerr at SeaCity in Southampton

Claire Kerr's exquisite painting Surface featured among the work of a whole range of international contemporary artists in Ship to Shore, an exhibition exploring the different ways that artists have engaged with seas and oceans, at the SeaCity Museum in Southampton in association with John Hansard Gallery. The exhibition ran from February 8th - May 4th 2014.

A solo exhibition of work by Caoimhe Kilfeather, Before it stirs the Surface, ran at Oonagh Young Gallery in Dublin from 21st March - 25th April 2014.

David O'Kane on show in Germany

Our latest prizewinner, David O'Kane, has certainly been making his mark, with work on show in two exhibitions in Germany: the Xmas in February cabinet exhibition at Josef Filipp Galerie in Leipzig (12th March - 12th April 2014) and Multiple Times at Campoi Gallery in Munich (30th January - 26th April 2014).

Cara Thorpe Solo Exhibition at the Cross Gallery

We were delighted to see that Cara Thorpe had a solo exhibition of new acrylic paintings Lost and Found showing at the Cross Gallery in Dublin. The exhibition ran from March 6th - April 12th 2014.

Eamon O'Kane exhibiting in Leipzig

Work by Eamon O'Kane was on show in the Xmas in February cabinet exhibition at Josef Filipp Galerie in Leipzig (12th March - 12th April 2014).

Mick Minogue at Ltd. Art Gallery in Seattle

Mick Minogue clearly had a great time with his collection of Game of Thrones inspired action figures for the show Winter Is Coming, an art show inspired by George R R Martin's Song of Ice and Fire books at the Ltd. Art Gallery, Seattle, a venue dedicated to showcasing contemporary and pop art. The exhibition was opened by the author and ran from March 1st - 23rd 2014.

New work by Ursula Burke in the British School at Rome

Ursula Burke, artist in residence in the British School at Rome between January and June 2014, had new pieces inspired by her residency on show at the School's March Mostra fine arts exhibition, which ran from March 14th - 22nd 2014.

   

Cleo

Hilary O'Kelly publishes book on Cleo Handcrafts

On the occasion of the presentation of the latest Golden Fleece Award in March 2014, we were very pleased indeed to celebrate the publication (with Associated Editions) of Cleo: Irish Clothes in a Wider World by Hilary O'Kelly, who won the Golden Fleece Award in 2010 with her project to research the history of the handknitting and handweaving boutique Cleo Ltd.

Helen McAllister publishing with Bloomsbury

Helen McAllister, in collaboration with Nigel Cheney, brought out in early 2014 Textile Surface Manipulation with Bloomsbury Publishing. This richly illustrated handbook is about developing a diverse variety of textile surface design techniques from personal visual inspiration sources.

   

CultureCRAFT

 

CultureCRAFT at the National Craft Gallery in Kilkenny

The National Craft Gallery's CultureCRAFT exhibition, showing works highlighting how material objects can carry a community’s shared history and reflect a cultural perspective, ran at the Gallery in Kilkenny from 21st January - 19th March 2014. Several Golden Fleece artists were included in this impressive display of Irish craft talent.

Hogan The creative power of Joe Hogan's basketry always impresses anew.
   
Legs Helen McAllister's sophisticatedly funky textile sculptures was a focal point of the gallery's Playful Puppets Family Day on Saturday 8th February, and she and Nigel Cheney gave a joint Artist Talk on the evening of Thursday 27th February.
   
Necklace Eily O'Connell's striking jewellery pieces were also on show.
   
Stamp Neil Read contributed his Identity Stamp ceramic wall hangings.
   
Heads Caroline Schofield's installation "Belief" looked really well in this setting. On January 30th, Caroline was present in the gallery to discuss her sculptural piece, together with work in development for the coming exhibition Interlace.

Eamon O'Kane Solo Exhibition at Klaipeda in Lithuania

Eamon O'Kane had a solo exhibition of drawings and installations, And Time begins again, at Klaipeda Culture Communication Centre in Lithuania. The show centred on themes of the natural world and human action/intervention with it, and ran from 24th January - 13th March 2014.

Frances Ryan Solo Exhibition with Mullan Gallery

It was a pleasure to note that Frances Ryan had a solo exhibition of new paintings showing at the Mullan Gallery in Belfast.The exhibition ran from February 20th - March 7th 2014.

Una Burke launch of Autumn/Winter 2014 Collection

Úna Burke has launched The Void Between, her Autumn/Winter Collection 2014 of luxury leather belts, handbags, jewellery and sculptural body pieces, which was available to view first-hand during Paris Fashion Week at Première Classe in the Tuilerie Gardens, between February 28th - March 3rd. Stamped with Una's unique sense of style, and beautifully crafted as always.

O'Connell

Una Burke and Eily O'Connell in London

We were delighted to see both Úna Burke and Eily O Connell among the selection of Irish designers whose work was singled out to feature in the Rian - A Journey through Irish Jewellery and Accessories exhibition at The Barbara Stanley Gallery in London, showcasing contemporary and innovative Irish jewellery, accessories and design.


The exhibition was set up in partnership with the Embassy of Ireland in London and ran from 18th - 27th February 2014.

Zoo

Cathy Callan Illustrates Dublin Zoo Elephant Book

We see that Cathy Callan is the illustrator of Elephants, a charming and informative children's book about the elephants at Dublin Zoo, written by Catherine de Courcy and published by Dublin Zoo in time for Christmans 2013 with Associated Editions. All proceeds go towards the care of the animals at the Zoo.

Nuala O'Donovan Featured in Ceramic Review Magazine

One of Nuala O'Donovan's creations featured on the cover of the latest issue of Ceramic Review (CR 265, January-February 2014), accompanied by a really good article on Nuala's art by Eleanor Flegg inside the magazine.

Michael Budd featured in Metall Design International

We were very pleased to see Michael Budd included in the list of outstanding metalworkers whose creations have been featured in the 2014 issue of Metall Design International, which came out in the New Year.

   

Past Time

David Eager Maher at Dublin City Gallery

On January 18th, Savage State pairing James Barry (1741-1806) with David Eager Maher (1979-present) formed part of an afternoon of events celebrating the finale of Jim Ricks's Bubblewrap Game (part of the Sleepwalkers series of exhibitions at Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane).
